Definition
a fixed-case strategy in comparative constructions in which there is a clause which attributes a gradable predicative scale to the comparee, and the standard is expressed as an oblique argument phrase with a spatial flag with an ablative ('from') meaning. Example: Mundari sadom-ete hati mananga-i 'The elephant is bigger than the horse' is an instance of the separative comparative – hati mananga-i asserts that the elephant is big, and sadom-ete expresses the standard, the horse, with a suffix -ete meaning 'from'.
