Definition

a strategy used in the stative complex predicate construction in which the manner (more generally, stative) component is packaged as a separate primary predication - coordinated with the event predication using a deranked - complex sentence - strategy. However, the stative predicate does not index (any of) its argument(s). Example: in Turkana è-pès-e-tè nɪ-a-ron-o-nì̥ 'They kick him badly' [lit. 'They kick him, it being bad'] the form of nɪ-a-ron-o-nì̥ 'be bad' is a Neuter deranked form, not indexing the third person plural subject of 'kick'. (Section 14.2)
