Definition
a strategy for expressing a concessive conditional construction where the protasis, which specifies the set of conditions for the concessive conditional, invokes the most informative or 'strongest' condition in the scalar model; the apodosis expresses the unexpected opposite of the expected causal relation between the most extreme condition and the outcome, and so implies the same outcome under the less extreme conditions. Example: Even if you drink (only) a little, your boss will fire you uses the scalar concessive conditional strategy: drinking only a little is the least likely condition (in the scalar model of drinking to various degrees) to lead to your boss firing you, and yet it will lead to your boss firing you.
