an unspecified referent in certain contexts, whose identity can be freely chosen without affecting the truth value of the utterance. Example: in After the fall of the Wall, East Germans were free to travel anywhere, anywhere is a free choice pronoun expressing a referent – a place – toward which the agent in the clause, the East Germans, is free to choose to travel.
