Definition

a discourse context which favors an identificational construal. An information gap is a proposition in the discourse context with a 'missing' piece of information. Example: in So I learned to sew books. They're really good books. It's just the covers that are rotten, asserting that the books are really good evokes an information gap in that something is not good / rotten, since the books need repairing. The proposition with the information gap is the presupposed open proposition. (Section 11.4.1)
