Definition
a discourse context which tends to favor a thetic construal. The fact that something happened is presupposed, and the statement explains or elaborates what happened. Example: My CAR broke down – as, for instance, a response to the question 'What happened?' – is an example of an explanation. (Section 11.3.1)
