Definition
a relative clause construction in which the head has one of several possible indefinite functions – that is, specific, irrealis, free choice, and/or universal. Example: in Take what(ever) you like, what(ever) you like is a free relative clause using a headless strategy, and in Take anything you like, anything you like is a free relative clause using an overt head strategy.
